Drop-in

Bocce (currently inactive)

Closely related to lawn bowling, bocce is a ball sport with a common ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. Developed into its present form in Italy, bocce is traditionally played on natural soil and asphalt courts. PAL’s bocce drop-in is held on the grounds at the Richmond Kings Community Centre and the season will commence once the ground has dried. If you are interested in dropping by and playing this ancient sport, please stayed tuned for an announcement as to the date and time of the first game.

Urban Walking Group

A ten-week summer program of walking and light hiking around Winnipeg. The concept would be loosely based on the Prairie Pathfinders walking group, in terms of the types of walks and hikes undertaken.

Participants will drive to a predetermined park or neighborhood to meet the group for a 10:00 am start. Walks or hikes would be in the range of 4 – 7km in length. Trail surfaces could be paved, bark chip, or gravel, depending on the location. Duration would be 1.5 – 2.0 hours. Examples of hikes include the Bois des Esprit trail along the Seine, and trails within the Assiniboine Forest.

A “walk” follows a paved route of sidewalks or paved pathways, whereas a “hike” follows trails of bark chips or gravel. These trails could have an irregular surface and be a bit less stable than a paved surface. Good supportive walking shoes or light hiking shoes are recommended. For added support and stability, participants may choose to use a hiking pole, either rigid or adjustable.

Participants should bring a bottle of water, sun hat, sunglasses, and a light snack for our break. No pets please.

All participants MUST complete a PAL registration form, along with a PAR Q form, a Health Screening Survey and an Activity Waiver. If interested, please register by: June 7, 2019. All documents are available at the PAL Office, Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings. We also recommend that you confirm with your doctor that you are able to participate in the activity.

Email notifications will be sent out each week with information.
