Call to Action for December 5th, 2017

November 12, 2017

An important message from PAL (55+) president Bob Roehle GREY POWER REQUIRED!

Councillor Janice Lukes and Craig Sheldon, Chair of the South Winnipeg Action Team (SWAT), have invited/requested as many PAL (55+) members as possible to join them at City Hall next week to show support for the proposed South Winnipeg Recreational Centre.  As you may know, the Mayor and City Council have been dragging their feet on this badly needed facility which has been under discussion for at least five years.  (See Janice Lukes’ column on page 9 of this week’s Sou’wester community newspaper.)  Due to the rapid expansion of Waverley West, South Winnipeg is deficient in per capita recreational space the equivalent of three and a half community centres.  In fact, South Winnipeg has less recreational space per capita than any other area in the City.  If we want more recreational space in South Winnipeg and eventually a permanent home for PAL(55+), we must show our City politicians big time that we support this project.  We can do this by filling, to over-flowing, the seating gallery overlooking the council chamber when this issue comes up on the agenda for discussion.  We may also need individuals to speak in support of the issue.
When: 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017
